Responsibilities:
*Review application data requirements and develop data approaches
*Design and implement data architectures for performance, scalability and high availability
*Perform database administration, upgrades, patches, and monitoring
*Plan and perform stress and volume tests on pre-production databases
*Work closely with software development and IT operations
*Create and document data models, schemas, procedures and processes
*Contribute to design reviews for application data architecture
*Troubleshoot production database performance, integrity, and availability issues
*Develop some of the more complex queries and database related subsystems

Required Skills:
*Proficiency with relational database analysis, design, and development
*Experience with database administration, backup, recovery, and monitoring
*Deep understanding of and experience with MySQL

Performance Tuning:
*Experience developing database scalability and load partitioning strategies
*Experience with high performance databases, database performance tuning, and data optimization
*Strong understanding of architectural approaches and technologies for database performance
*Experience designing large volume transactional and reporting databases

High Availability:
*Experience designing high availability systems with database replication and clusters
*Experience with MySQL database clusters, data replication, and other high availability data techniques
*Strong understanding of database replication and database clustering concepts
*Strong understanding of application design implications on data availability and integrity
*Expertise in architectural approaches and technologies to implement application availability

Application Development Support:
*Experience developing and debugging J2EE applications with databases
*Experience working with schema design, database programming, distributed and large scale database architectures
*Good development-process skills, such as structured design, documentation, build processes, coding style, and testing frameworks, source code control, change m management, planning/estimation
*Experience with various APIs like JDBC, ODBC, etc.
*Experience with designing databases for reporting systems
*Experience working in a cross functional teams, including Product Marketing, Information Systems, or Quality Assurance

Desirable Skills:
*Experience with Postgres/SQL
*Experience with other data approaches, such as LDAP directories
*Experience with web languages and standards including HTML, XML, CSS and JavaScript
*Work experience with MySQL on Solaris and Windows
*Experience with storage systems (NAS, SAN, RAID disk based setup)
*Expertise in dimensional modeling and data warehousing
*Experience with Apache Struts Application Framework and Redhat Hibernate
*Proficiency in an scripting language, such as PHP, Ruby, Perl, and/or Python
*Experience with distributed data architecture, design, and implementation
*Experience with SOAP/XML Web Services integration
*Industry networking experience, including knowledge of fundamental protocols, such as TCP, UDP, IPv4/6 and SSL/TLS

Education and Experience:
*3+ years designing databases
*2+ years experience programming for a relational database
*Minimum of 5 years as a MySQL DBA for large scale commercial databases
*Have 8+ years of database administration and architecture, in both hands-on and leadership positions
*Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering is required; MS degree preferred.
