The Northern NJ MySQL June Meeting

** NOTE: As we found last month this our new location is quite OK place. Meeting room may seem little bit big for what we need, but wifi works well and it also seems that we will be able to use their large TV for presentations. Need to get a little help from Menachem, but I believe we can manage this. Business office of the library gave us green light for this. Should any problems kick in - we still can use projector and wall as we normally do.

Parking is sometimes a problem around library, but we can use the library parking lot. You won't be towed away after 4 PM.

Last month we talk that much that we almost got tickets for loitering. This month we plan to go to to some restaurant close by after meeting. This is only for those who won't have enough after the.

I cannot wait to see you all again.

* Last month we had quite interesting discussion regarding to high availability methods and technologies that are available in MySQL Few people were ready to test various concepts and I saw them RSVP for this month as well so we can go on a little on this topic.

* I would like to discuss one other matter and hope that it will be interesting enough for everyone. Wat it is? - Spatial extensions for MySQL. I have an idea how to use spatial features to help me solve one problem I currently work on. The thing is that I am not sure if it is possible. I need to figure out the most effective way of storing data about contacts and links in the social network. After short analysis I picture it as a "topography" where all elements that have certain link to some other elements in this network will be RELATED to their neighbors. I never used spatial features in relation database and I might be totally wrong. But while analyzing this my little task I found this whole tupe of problem as really interesting and hope that :
1) someone has enough info about it ti carry discussion about this topic on;
2) I can get inspired by that discussion a little;

Well i know the number 2) is quite selfish one, but at least I am honest with you guys.

Location
========

This is not a brand new location anymore for us. Since it is going to be just our second Meetup there and hey still have only interim director we did not do any long term reservations for the meeting room. At least for this month and July we have it booked and I'll make sure that we will go on if we still like it.
